Booking holds a place in line rather than a fixed appointment — the clinic reserves the time you choose, but on a busy day you may still wait a little.

Do not book online for a medical emergency. If this is life-threatening, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What to expect

What happens when you arrive

Most visits are done inside an hour. Here is the shape of it, so nothing is a surprise.

  1. Check in

Give your name at the desk. If you booked online, you are already on the list. Bring ID, your insurance card and a list of your medications.

  2. See a doctor

A doctor examines you and decides what, if anything, needs testing — and explains why.

  3. Tests, if you need them

A urine test, a rapid strep or flu swab, an X-ray — done here while you wait. Blood is drawn here too and sent to the lab, so you make no second trip.

  4. Leave with a plan

What is wrong, what to do about it, and a prescription if you need one. We send a note to your regular doctor if you would like us to.

Questions

FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions

These are the things patients most want to know. If your question is not here, the front desk will answer it in about a minute.

  • Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in any time we are open, up to the last walk-in — one hour before we close — and you will be seen. You can also hold a place online before you leave home, which usually means less time in the waiting room, but it has never been required and never will be.

  • How long will I wait?

Usually under half an hour for a walk-in. Patients who arrive seriously ill or injured are seen first, so a busy afternoon can run longer. Booking online ahead of time is the reliable way to shorten it.

  • Who will actually see me?

A physician. There is a doctor on site every hour we are open, and a doctor examines you. The practice has been physician-owned and physician-run since 1983, and most of our doctors have looked after Santa Barbara families for decades.

  • Do you take my insurance?

We accept most major plans, and we are the designated urgent care provider for CenCal Health and Santa Barbara Select IPA. There is a fuller list higher up this page. If you do not see yours, call and we will tell you before you come in.

  • Do you see children?

Yes. We see all ages, including school and sports physicals. A parent or guardian needs to come with anyone under 18.

  • Do you speak Spanish?

Yes — our front desk and our doctors see patients in Spanish. Just ask, and we will make sure you are understood.

  • What should I bring?

Photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of any medications you take. For a work injury, bring your employer's claim information. Payment is due at the time of your visit.

  • Should I come here or go to the emergency room?

Come here for anything that needs attention today but is not life-threatening — infections, injuries, stitches, broken bones, fevers. Go straight to an emergency room, or call 911, for chest pain, difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms or severe bleeding. If you are not sure, call us and ask.

  • Do I have to go somewhere else for X-rays or lab work?

No. Rapid tests are done during your visit, and for anything further we draw the blood here and send it to the lab — you do not make a second trip. Your X-ray is taken on site and read by the doctor treating you, then over-read by a radiologist. Most visits end with an answer rather than a referral.

  • How do I pay a bill?

Online, from the Pay a Bill page — you will need the patient's name, date of birth and phone number to find the account. You can also call the clinic and ask for billing.
